Senator Shehu Sani Calls Trump a ‘Disruptor’ Ahead of Inauguration
Former Nigerian Senator Shehu Sani has labeled United States President-elect Donald Trump as a ‘disruptor’ ahead of his inauguration as the 47th President of the U.S.
In a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, Sani predicted that Trump’s presidency would bring significant challenges to the global stage. According to Sani, Trump would approach international relations from a nationalistic and business-minded perspective, causing major shifts in the world’s political landscape.
“Mr. Trump takes over the American presidency today. A disruptor takes power. It’s going to be a great challenge to the world,” Sani wrote.
Sani suggested that Trump’s leadership would likely strain U.S. relations with both allies and adversaries, noting that the President-elect would likely “pull the plug or change the plugs” on longstanding international partnerships, including with the United Nations, the European Union, NATO, and the broader international community.
Sani further emphasized that Trump’s presidency would be characterized by fear rather than affection from the international community. He also anticipated that Trump’s bold and unconventional approach would face substantial resistance from both allies and adversaries.
He cautioned that Africa should not expect much from the new administration, drawing a comparison to the tenure of President Joe Biden, who he felt had also failed to deliver substantial benefits to the continent. Sani concluded by asserting that despite the challenges Trump may pose, the world must remain committed to universal human values.
“Africa should not expect anything much from Trump, even though Biden didn’t do much either. Trump is back and, sadly, without Mugabe. The world must not give up or compromise its universal human values,” Sani added.
