Simon Ekpa Arrested in Finland Over Alleged Terror-Related Offenses

a Finnish-Nigerian activist and self-declared Prime Minister of the “Biafra Republic Government in Exile,” has been arrested in Finland along with four others over alleged terror-related activities. The Päijät-Häme District Court confirmed Ekpa’s detention on charges of public incitement to commit crimes with terrorist intent, accusing him of using social media to promote violence against civilians and authorities in South-Eastern Nigeria. The Finnish Central Criminal Police reported that Ekpa’s actions, allegedly carried out from Finland, have led to significant unrest in Nigeria’s South-East region.

Additionally, four other individuals were arrested for allegedly financing these activities. Finnish authorities emphasized the role of international cooperation in the investigation. All five suspects were detained earlier in the week, with preliminary hearings taking place on November 21, 2024. Ekpa has been a controversial figure due to his involvement in the Biafra separatist movement, which has faced accusations of inciting violence and disrupting peace in Nigeria.
