Sokoto Mourns: Tragic Road Accident Claims Lives of Two Doctors and Four Others”
The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) is in deep mourning following the tragic death of two medical doctors from Sokoto Specialist Hospital, along with four other individuals, in a fatal road accident on the Bodinga-Yabo road. The doctors, Dr. Anas Chika and Dr. Abubakar Liman Shehu, were traveling to Kebbi State on Sunday when their vehicle collided with an oncoming truck, resulting in the death of all six people inside the car.
Dr. Farouk Kabiru, the state chairman of the NMA, spoke on behalf of the medical community, expressing profound sorrow over the loss. He described the two doctors as young, dedicated professionals who had made significant contributions to the health sector. Their untimely passing has left a void that will be deeply felt in the community.
Dr. Attahiru Isa, the Chief Medical Director of Sokoto Specialist Hospital, also conveyed his grief. He highlighted the critical roles Dr. Chika and Dr. Shehu had played at the hospital. “Dr. Anas was part of the Gynaecology Department (O and G), while Dr. Shehu served in the General Out-patient Department (GOPD) and also as the Chief Imam of the department,” Dr. Isa said. “Both were committed, humble, and hardworking, and their loss is a significant blow to the hospital and the entire state.”
Dr. Isa further emphasized the dedication of the two doctors, noting that despite the demanding nature of their work, they persevered and remained committed to their roles. “We are heartbroken, but we submit to the will of Allah. We pray that He grants them Jannatul Firdaus and provides comfort to their families,” he added.
The tragedy has cast a dark shadow over the medical community, but the legacy of Dr. Chika and Dr. Shehu’s service will be remembered by all who knew them.
