Some Of Our Staff Are Bandits’ Informants — Katsina VC Cries Out
The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA) in Katsina State, Professor Armaya’u Bichi, has alleged that some of the university’s staff are serving as informants to bandits.
Bichi in an exclusive interview with DW Hausa monitored by Channels Television on Wednesday, said although contacts of suspected staff had already been given to a security agency for further investigation, action has not been taken.
According to the University’s Vice Chancellor, the school management was doing its best to prevent the recurrence of such incidents, however, the situation was getting worse.
” It’s unfortunate and worrisome that, some of our staff are informants to bandits. The suspected staff are within us and have been giving information to bandits to come and attack both the staff and students.
“We have been taking all necessary action but our effort proved abortive.
“Bandits have been penetrating the staff and students residential quarters and kidnap them.
“The number one courage of bandits is the informants. And they are living with us here.
“We have informed a security agency about the suspected staff and given them their phone numbers for necessary investigation, but up to now, the head of the security agency has yet to get back to me.
“We have a strong reason for that, though we can’t take laws into our hands”, he insisted.
Bandits have been attacking, kidnapping and killing not only the residents but also, students and staff of the university including their family members in Dutsinma, one of the frontline Local Government Areas in Katsina State.
When contacted, the Police Spokesman, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, said the State Police Command is yet to be informed on the issue however, pledged to thoroughly investigate the matter to bring perpetrators to justice.
He appealed to the residents, to assist the command with relevant information on the activities of bandits and their collaborators to end banditry in the state.
“We don’t have information on this issue and we don’t know exactly which particular security agency the university management contacted.
“We will thoroughly investigate the matter to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“The command under the leadership of CP Abubakar Musa, has been appealing to the residents to assist it with relevant information on the activities of bandits and their collaborators to end banditry.
Recalled that, in the early hours of Tuesday last week, a lecturer with the Federal University Dutsinma, FUDMA was killed, while two of his children were abducted in a fresh bandits attack.
The lecturer, simply identified as Dr. Tiri Gyan David, was before reaching his early grave, the Head of the Department of Agricultural Economics, Extension, and Rural Development at the university.
Eyewitness name withheld, told Channels Television on a telephone call, that the incident occurred at about 1:30 am at the lecturer’s residence located at the Yarima Quarters low-cost, Dutsinma Local Government Area of Katsina State.
He added that the bandits invaded the community with sophisticated weapons, shooting sporadically to scare the residents, adding that, the hoodlums, further abducted two biological children of the lecturer.
The Police Spokesman, ASP Abubakar Sadiq also confirmed the incident to our correspondent, stating that, the state police command will soon release a detailed statement regarding the incident.
