Sowore Safe After Violent Incident at Lagos Marathon
Human rights activist and convener of the #RevolutionNow Movement, Omoyele Sowore, has confirmed that he and his crew were attacked during the Lagos City Marathon. Initial reports suggested that Sowore, a former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), was assaulted by political thugs.
In a live Facebook video, Sowore and his crew members, along with some journalists, were seen being physically attacked by the assailants. Sowore, however, reassured his followers in a Facebook post, confirming that he was safe and unharmed.
He explained that the incident occurred after the marathon when the management of the event venue accused them of unlawfully occupying the “VVIP space post-event.” Sowore wrote, “Some rogue elements launched an attack on us, claiming we unlawfully occupied the ‘VVIP’ space. They mobilized thugs to assault us.”
Despite the attack, Sowore remains unscathed, and the incident has sparked further discussion about the use of political violence in public spaces.
