Sowore Supports Jonathan’s Proposal to “Name and Shame” Nigeria’s Leaders
Human rights activist and leader of the #RevolutionNow movement, Omoyele Sowore, has expressed full support for former President Goodluck Jonathan’s recent proposal to build two structures in Abuja. These buildings would display the pictures of past and present Nigerian leaders who have played a role in the nation’s ongoing challenges, effectively “naming and shaming” them.
Sowore, who is also the former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), affirmed his endorsement of Jonathan’s idea, joking that he is certain the former president would be featured prominently on the “list of infamy.”
Jonathan, during a speech at the book launch of former Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, in Abuja, suggested that such a display would help future generations recognize the negative impact certain leaders had on Nigeria’s history. The former president criticized the tendency of Nigerians to tolerate poor behavior from political leaders, asserting that real change would only come when citizens begin to reject misconduct.
Sowore reacted positively to Jonathan’s proposal, agreeing with the concept wholeheartedly. On his X (formerly Twitter) page, Sowore remarked, “Ex-Nigerian President Jonathan proposes two buildings in Abuja to display pictures naming and shaming those who contributed to current Nigeria’s problems. I totally agree with former President Goodluck Jonathan considering that he will prominently feature on the list of infamy!”
This exchange has reignited conversations about the accountability of Nigerian leaders, with both Sowore and Jonathan calling for a reckoning over the nation’s leadership history.
