The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has urgently called for decisive action following the brutal attack on a group of tomato traders from Zaria, which resulted in the tragic deaths of 10 individuals.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, Speaker Abbas expressed his deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as an unbearable tragedy. He condemned the senseless violence and demanded immediate intervention from security agencies to ensure that those responsible for the attack are brought to justice.

“This horrific act cannot go unpunished,” Abbas said. “I urge security forces to intensify efforts to rescue the kidnapped individuals, apprehend the perpetrators, and ensure that justice is served.”

Abbas also extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased traders, praying for their souls to rest in peace.

The victims, who hailed from Danmagaji Market in Zaria, had been on a journey to Katsina and Zamfara states to purchase tomatoes. During their trip, they were ambushed by armed bandits at Takoki village in Funtua Local Government Area, Katsina State. In an attempt to escape, the driver of their truck attempted to reverse at high speed, but tragically, the vehicle plummeted off a bridge.

The attack left 10 traders dead, while seven others sustained injuries. Five more are feared to have been kidnapped by the bandits. In addition to the loss of life, goods worth approximately ₦60 million were reportedly destroyed during the incident.
