Starlink Doubles Its Subscription Prices In Nigeria Amid Rising Inflation

Starlink has raised its base subscription prices in Nigeria, citing inflation as the main factor for the increase.
The satellite internet company owned by SpaceX announced the change in an email to its customers on Tuesday and seen by SaharaReporters, stating, “Due to excessive levels of inflation, the Starlink monthly service price will increase.”
The standard residential plan, which includes a 1 TB fair usage policy, will now cost ₦75,000 ($48), up from the previous ₦38,000 ($24). Customers using Starlink’s roaming service will see the most significant price hike.
Local roaming, allowing customers to use their kits beyond home or workplace, will now cost ₦167,000 per month, up from ₦49,000. International roaming will be charged at ₦717,000 monthly.
For existing customers, these new rates will take effect from October 31, while new subscribers will immediately pay the updated prices.
Despite these changes, the Starlink kit in Nigeria remains priced at ₦440,000, with no rental option available, unlike in Kenya.
In Kenya, customers can access a more affordable 50GB plan for KES 1,300, and there’s a cheaper Starlink Mini kit option priced at KES 27,000.
The Mini kit offers lower speeds of up to 100 Mbps, while the standard kit provides 200 Mbps. Kenyan customers also pay a lower monthly subscription of KES 4,000 for the Mini kit and KES 6,500 for the standard plan.
These price differences in Kenya are likely due to competition from local internet service providers like Safaricom and Jamii Telecommunications, with Safaricom recently upgrading speeds to retain customers.
