“Swift Intervention Repels Armed Attackers” — Police, Vigilantes Arrest Suspect At Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Family Home

The family residence of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, was attacked again on Tuesday night at her country home in Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area.

Armed men vandalized windows before being repelled by swift action from local police officers, community vigilantes, and concerned youths. One suspect, Suberu Jose—a known ritualist allegedly linked to the senator’s political opponents and a native of the community—was arrested at the scene.

Suberu confessed to the attack, admitting this was his third time participating in assaults on the senator’s family home. Though a mob tried to take justice into their own hands, the suspect was rescued and handed over to the police.

Authorities recovered a cutlass and charms from Suberu, while other attackers armed with dangerous weapons remain at large.

This marks the first arrest in a series of violent attacks that began with an assault on April 15, 2025, when no suspects were apprehended.

The renewed violence coincides with the Federal Government filing two separate criminal charges against Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, following her public allegations of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Those accusations led to her controversial six-month suspension from the Senate.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s media office urged the public to stay calm and committed to justice, emphasizing that her dedication to truth and constituency representation should not be met with intimidation or violence.

Attempts to reach the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Ayah, for comment were unsuccessful.
