The Impact Of The Newly Bills Assented By Governor Bala Mohammed Of Bauchi State By Adam Tanko Jibril, Esq

Signed of the State Penal Code Law, Administration of Criminal Justice Law and Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law by H.E Senator Bala Mohammed is a huge success on administration of criminal justice in Bauchi state.

 

On the 9th December, 2022 the Executive Governor of Bauchi state has signed bills into law, the chief among such bills are; to wit, State Penal Code Law, Administration of Criminal Justice Law and Violence Against Person Prohibition Law.

After more than 20 years in operation without a review or an amendment, the Penal Code and Criminal Procedure Code Laws of the Northern Nigeria. It was now Bauchi state finally established it own.

In assenting into laws of the aforementioned bills, the new legislations represents the monumental piece of legislations expected to enhance the soundness and resilience of the dispense of justice for sustainable growth and development of the legal system.

As a state manager, Governor Bala Mohammed among his responsibilities is implementing state laws and overseeing the operation of the state executive branch.

Every legislative bill that is passed by the state legislative body is presented to the Governor for signing. State laws prescribe how much time the Governor is allotted to sign or veto proposed legislation following transmittal.

Very few crimes are under exclusive Federal jurisdiction. The responsibility to respond to most crime rests with State and local governments is via the establishment of the state laws whereof His Excellency assented to such bills after the careful perusals and approvals of the Bauchi State House of Assembly.

CONCLUSION

It is believed that these newly established Laws will bring succor and effective remedies to millions of victims who have suffered violence and crimes within Bauchi State jurisdiction, in one form or the other, in silence without recourse to justice or rehabilitative, psychological or social support for their recovery and reintegration.

These Laws does not only ensure that the criminals and or violators are brought to justice only, but also that the victims of their actions and inactions are adequately compensated, re- integrated into the society and given the necessary support and protection specifically the women and children.
