“They Rained Bullets”: Abia Lands Commissioner Survives Shocking Ambush
In a chilling attack on Saturday night, Mr. Chaka Chukwumerije, Abia State Commissioner for Lands and Housing, narrowly escaped death after unknown gunmen opened fire on his convoy along the Enugu-Umuahia Expressway near Ezinnachi, Imo State.
Chukwumerije, son of the late Senator Uche Chukwumerije, was returning to Umuahia from his hometown, Umunneochi, when the assailants ambushed his vehicle just past Okigwe Junction.
“They rained bullets on our car. The shots came directly to my side,” Chukwumerije recounted in a video shared after the incident. “It was terrifying.”
The commissioner was accompanied by three others, and miraculously, no one was harmed, though their vehicle was riddled with bullets.
According to Chukwumerije, the attackers used a car to block the road, driving against traffic to stage the ambush.
“We braked to assess the situation—then came the gunfire. It was clearly a planned attack. I’m just grateful we made it out alive.”
The Abia State Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, confirmed the incident but clarified that it occurred within Imo State’s jurisdiction. A situation report has been forwarded to Imo Police Command for follow-up.
Meanwhile, Chaka’s brother, Dike Chukwumerije, confirmed the ambush in a Facebook post, describing it bluntly as “an attempt on his life.”
No suspects have been arrested as of the time of filing this report.
