“This Is Not Personal Victory But Responsibility I Embrace” — Ali Bukar Dalori Assumes APC Acting National Chairman Role
The Deputy National Chairman (North) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ali Bukar Dalori, has officially taken over as the party’s Acting National Chairman following the resignation of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed Dalori to assume the position, pending the immediate convening of the APC National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, which will formally elect a substantive chairman.
Dalori hit the ground running on Monday as he presided over a meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja, where he emphasized unity, discipline, and strategic preparation ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking at the meeting, Dalori described his appointment as a responsibility, not a personal victory, noting that the moment called for “consolidation, not conflict; unity, not division; vision, not personal ambition.”
“We must keep our eyes on the bigger picture,” he urged. “Our focus should be on delivering good governance to Nigerians, deepening democracy within our party, and preparing for the future with clarity and determination.”
Dalori called for the full support and cooperation of party members at all levels, stressing the need to reconnect with the grassroots and re-energize the APC structure nationwide.
He also reaffirmed the NWC’s unwavering support for President Tinubu and his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“Let me use this occasion to declare our firm loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The Renewed Hope Agenda is already yielding positive steps in addressing the challenges facing our nation — from economic reforms to national cohesion. The APC remains the vehicle to drive this transformation,” Dalori said.
Amid concerns over internal rifts following Ganduje’s resignation, Dalori appealed for calm and unity.
“Political transitions often create uncertainty, but we must not allow them to breed disunity. We must avoid divisive actions and focus on what binds us — our shared belief in Nigeria’s promise and the future of the APC.”
Dalori also paid tribute to his predecessor, Dr. Ganduje, praising his experienced leadership and steadfast commitment to the party.
“We are grateful for the significant contributions of Dr. Ganduje. He provided clear direction and experienced leadership during his tenure. We wish him strength and full recovery as he focuses on his personal well-being,” he added.
Earlier, the National Secretary of the party, Senator Suraj Ajibola, presented Ganduje’s resignation letter to the NWC. The committee unanimously accepted the resignation through a formal motion, after which a second motion was passed confirming Dalori as the Acting National Chairman in accordance with Article 14 of the APC Constitution.
The NEC is expected to meet soon to elect a substantive national chairman.
