“Tinubu Honors Fallen Heroes: President Expresses Sympathy for Slain Soldiers

President Bola Tinubu has extended his deepest condolences to the military and the families of the six soldiers who tragically lost their lives during a terrorist attack on January 4, 2025. The deadly assault took place at the Nigerian Army base in Sabon Gida, Damboa, Borno State, and left the nation in mourning.

In a statement released on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised the fallen soldiers for their bravery and ultimate sacrifice in defense of the nation. He emphasized that their sacrifices would never be forgotten, reaffirming that the nation remains deeply indebted to those who gave their lives for Nigeria’s security.

The President also lauded the Nigerian Armed Forces for their rapid and decisive response to the attack. He commended the air component’s retaliatory airstrikes, which were pivotal in neutralizing several terrorists and destroying their equipment as they attempted to flee. Tinubu highlighted the military’s readiness and capability to confront any threats to national security, underscoring their commitment to safeguarding the nation.

Acknowledging the tough challenges the military faces, the President reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to eradicating terrorism and banditry, vowing continuous support for the armed forces. He stated, “Your sacrifices and dedication do not go unnoticed, and we stand firmly behind you in this ongoing fight to eliminate these threats.”

In the wake of the attack, President Tinubu has called for a comprehensive investigation to understand the full circumstances of the incident, stressing the importance of learning from it to prevent future occurrences. He also urged the military to increase its operations, particularly in the Northwest, where bandits continue to jeopardize the safety of innocent civilians.

Lastly, the President appealed to all Nigerians, including the media, to unite in support of the military’s efforts to restore peace and stability to the country. “We must remain united in our resolve to support our armed forces as they work tirelessly to protect our people and secure our nation,” he concluded.

The assault on the Sabon Gida base was described as a predawn attack that resulted in the loss of six soldiers. However, the Nigerian Armed Forces swiftly launched a strong counterattack, reflecting their unyielding commitment to maintaining national security in the face of ongoing threats.
