Tinubu Honoured with Saint Lucia’s Most Prestigious National Award
Saint Lucia – In a moment of diplomatic warmth and pan-African solidarity, the government of Saint Lucia has conferred its highest national honour on Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The title of Knight Commander of the Order of Saint Lucia (KCOSL) was officially bestowed by the island nation’s Governor-General.
The announcement was made on Monday via the government’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating:
“The Government of Saint Lucia is pleased to announce that, the Governor General has conferred the title of Knight Commander of the Order of Saint Lucia (KCOSL) upon H. E. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
President Tinubu, currently on a visit to the Caribbean nation, addressed a joint session of Saint Lucia’s Senate and House of Assembly earlier in the day. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of deepening ties between Africa and the Caribbean through enhanced cooperation.
“My visit to Saint Lucia is in keeping with the ideal of building the bridge between Africa and the Caribbean and creating a pathway to deepen economic ties and foster mutual cooperation,” Tinubu said. “It also reflects our desire as a people to advance prosperity, sustainable development, and strengthen familial bonds.”
The honour signifies a milestone in the growing diplomatic and cultural relationship between Nigeria and Saint Lucia, both nations with shared histories and aspirations for global unity among people of African descent.
This recognition of President Tinubu not only underscores Saint Lucia’s appreciation of Nigeria’s role on the global stage but also signals a renewed commitment to intercontinental collaboration across the Atlantic.
