Tinubu’s Promises Have Collapsed Into Propaganda – Obidient Movement
Marking the 31st anniversary of Nigeria’s return to democratic rule, the Obidient Movement has issued a scathing indictment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, accusing it of hypocrisy, unchecked corruption, and elitist excess.
In a statement titled “June 12: The Tinubu Administration’s Dance of Hypocrisy”, the group, through its Director of Strategic Communications and Media, Nana Sani Kazaure, said the administration has betrayed Nigerians with empty promises and runaway extravagance.
“This government is one of propaganda, by propaganda, and for looters,” the group declared.
The statement condemned what it described as a “bloated and reckless government” more interested in luxury than in solving the nation’s deepening crises. The group cited the recent purchase of a new presidential jet and a ₦1 billion Cadillac Escalade as examples of gross misplacement of priorities.
“A Cadillac and a jet are Tinubu’s only concrete achievements. His so-called lean government is an obvious fraud,” the statement added.
On corruption, the Obidient Movement accused the government of transforming from a supposed reformer into a sanctuary for looters. It pointed to the unresolved case involving three top APC female appointees, including a minister, who were alleged to have diverted billions meant for citizen welfare.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) also came under fire, accused of focusing on minor offenses like spraying money at parties and social media criticism, while ignoring powerful figures with credible evidence of massive looting.
“Instead of prosecuting ex-governors caught on video stuffing dollars into gowns, the EFCC chases TikTok users and petty entertainers,” the group said.
On the economy, the movement criticized the administration’s “fantastical” projections, including its unrealistic promise of 10% GDP growth annually between 2023 and 2027, while actual growth in 2024 sat at just 3.6%.
“For an economy whose best-ever annual growth was 7% in 1974, a 10% promise is delusional,” the group said.
Security was also listed as a major failure. The statement accused Tinubu of being absent and disengaged, saying he “junkets the world” under the guise of working visits while insecurity worsens at home.
In a stern warning ahead of the 2027 elections, the Obidient Movement alleged that the APC is plotting a one-party dictatorship through coercion and illegal tactics.
“If the past two years have been harrowing, another four under APC would drag Nigeria back to the Stone Age. Nigerians will not sip again from APC’s poisoned chalice,” the group concluded.
