Trader arraigned over alleged power bank theft

A-24-year-old trader, James Ovie, on Friday appeared before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ondo State, over alleged theft of an Oraimo power bank worth N35, 000.

The defendant, whose address was not provided, is facing a one-count charge of stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge brought against him by the police.

The prosecutor, ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the defendant committed the theft on July 18 by 4. 00 p.m. at Ijokodo in Okitipupa.

Orogbemi said the defendant stole the power bank from a shop owned by one Mr Godwin Nwani, an offence that contravened Section 390 (9) of the Criminal, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Cletus Ojuola, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 and a surety in like sum.

Ojuola held that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and provide evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Ondo State Government.

He adjourned the case until Sept. 22, for hearing.
