Tragedy at UNIZIK: Student Dies After Jumping From 3-Storey Building

A tragic incident has rocked Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, following the death of a male student who jumped from a three-storey building near the campus gate.

The event occurred around 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at a lodge near Royal Kitchen Junction, close to the university’s entrance. Eyewitnesses reported that the student, believed to have been under the influence of a hard drug, leapt from the building in a state of confusion or distress.

Bystanders rushed him to a nearby hospital, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival. The chilling sound of a loud thud drew residents from nearby rooms, who then found the student lying in a pool of blood.

Further complicating the tragedy, the victim’s roommate was discovered in their shared room shortly after the incident—also reportedly incoherent and believed to be under the influence of the same unknown substance.

As of the time of this report, the student’s identity has not been released, pending notification of his family.

When contacted for a statement, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Louis Okwudili Njelita, responded briefly: “This information is not up to my desk now for me to make any comment.”

The incident has sent shockwaves across the university community, with students and staff alike calling for urgent awareness and intervention around substance abuse.
