“Tragedy Strikes Borno: Suicide Bomber Kills 10 in Crowded Fish Market”
A suspected Boko Haram suicide bomber unleashed terror on Friday night at a bustling fish market in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, killing at least 10 civilians and injuring seven others in a devastating blast.
The attack occurred during peak hours at the popular evening market, which regularly attracts scores of traders and local residents. Security sources revealed that the assailant had disguised as a civilian, mingling with unsuspecting shoppers before detonating the explosive device.
“The suicide bomber also died in the blast,” confirmed a security official, identified as Makama. He added that Nigerian Army troops and emergency response teams were swiftly deployed to the scene, and the injured were promptly evacuated to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of horror and confusion, as the explosion sent bodies flying and thick smoke enveloped the market. Survivors recounted hearing a loud bang followed by screams, with some victims lying lifeless and others bleeding on the ground.
“The market was at its busiest when the explosion happened,” said one trader, visibly shaken by the incident.
In response, military personnel cordoned off the entire area to forestall any further infiltration by insurgents. Security operatives have also launched an investigation into the attack, which bears the hallmarks of Boko Haram’s ongoing insurgency in the region.
Friday’s bombing marks a grim reminder of the persistent threat posed by terrorist elements in the North-East, despite ongoing efforts by the military to restore peace.
