“Tragic Airstrike Mistakenly Kills 7 in Zamfara After Security Forces Clash with Bandits”
In a shocking turn of events, an airstrike mistakenly dropped a bomb on a community in Zamfara State, claiming the lives of seven people, including members of the local security forces and civilians. This tragic incident unfolded on the heels of Saturday’s Local Government Elections when security operatives attempted to thwart a bandit attack in Zakka village.
Sources informed Channels Television that the victims were mostly family members, including three children, a man, and two women. The community was left in great shock and chaos following the bomb blast, which occurred shortly after a fierce gun battle between the security forces and bandits.
Eyewitnesses reported that police officers and members of the State Community Watch Corps (CWC) engaged the bandits in a deadly firefight. Tragically, two police officers and a CWC operative were killed on the spot. Another officer, who sustained serious injuries, later succumbed to his wounds.
After the intense gun battle, a military fighter jet was dispatched to provide reinforcement. However, in a catastrophic mistake, the jet dropped a bomb on Yauni, a community located in the southern part of Zakka village, causing further devastation.
An eyewitness explained, “As a result of this, we lost our men in the gun battle. Another woman was also left injured.” The fallout from the bombing has left the community in mourning, but military and government authorities had not commented on the matter at the time of this report.
This is not the first time such an incident has occurred. In July 2022, a similar tragedy struck when a military fighter jet mistakenly dropped a bomb on Kunkunni village, killing at least two people in the Safana Local Government Area. Earlier this year, an airstrike in Zamfara mistakenly killed 16 people, including members of the local Zamfara Community Protection Guard (ZCPG), vigilantes, and civilians.
