“Tragic Collision: 9 Dead as Reckless Driving Claims Lives on Lagos-Ibadan Highway”
The tragic accident on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, near Ayetoro, has claimed the lives of nine people. The crash, which occurred around 5:30 a.m. on Monday, involved a Toyota bus and a stationary truck. The bus driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to ram into the truck. The fatal crash resulted in the deaths of six men and three women. Three other passengers sustained injuries and were taken to Famobis Hospital in Mowe, Ogun State.
The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has pointed to excessive speed and driver fatigue as the suspected causes of the accident. The injured victims were transported to the hospital for medical treatment, while the deceased were deposited at Idera Morgue in Sagamu.
The Ogun State Sector Commander, Fasakin Akinwumi, expressed concern over reckless driving, urging drivers to adhere to speed limits and rest every four hours of driving as stipulated. He also sympathized with the families of the victims, encouraging them to reach out to the Mowe Unit Command for further details regarding the crash.
This tragic incident highlights the ongoing concern about road safety, especially involving commercial drivers, and the need for more stringent enforcement of road safety regulations.
