Unfinished Projects, False Celebrations: Inside Tinubu’s Visit to Enugu”

During President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to Enugu State, the state government celebrated the commissioning of various projects, hosted by Governor Peter Mbah. However, investigations by SaharaReporters have raised questions about the true completion of these projects. For example, a re-asphalted junction and a Smart School building, which were presented as fully completed, were in fact still under construction or barely finished.

The state government also made a spectacle of 150 patrol security vehicles, which had already been distributed to various security agencies, but were returned to the Government House just for the presidential visit. While the International Conference Centre (ICC) was the only project that seemed to be completed with minor work still ongoing, other developments like the Government Technical College (GTC), Enugu, featured just one completed classroom block while many others were still under construction.

Governor Mbah’s announcement of a N100 billion plan for the construction of Smart Schools across the state seemed ambitious, but critics argue that the projects displayed to the president were far from representative of real progress. Former PDP national Auditor Chief Raymond Nnaji voiced concerns about the media’s failure to critically assess the state government’s achievements, warning that such unchallenged coverage undermines democracy.

In defense, the state government explained that the uncompleted Smart Green School at GTC was symbolic, as were the resurfaced roads and patrol vehicles. Despite these explanations, public skepticism about the tangible results of these projects persists.
