UNTH doctor petitions police over alleged assassination attempt

A medical doctor with the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital(UNTH) Enugu, Dr. Egbe Camillus, has raised an alarm over a failed attempt to assassinate him.

He therefore  called on the  police to investigate whoever is behind the alleged assassination attempt.

Egbe, a registrar in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology  of UNTH,  said this Tuesday.

He said but for the timely intervention and vigilance of personnel of the Enugu State Neighborhood watch, Ugboezeji Abakpa- Nike unit who quickly apprehended the suspect, he could have been a dead man by now.

Narrating the alleged assassination attempt on him, Egbe said, “On December 19, 2022 at about 12 midnight, I saw a young man sitting inside the uncompleted building in front of Treluck Hospital and I alerted the Ugboezeji Abakpa- Nike neighbourhood security men that came and arrested the suspect.

“However, during interrogation the suspect confessed that he was paid to assassinate me by a man and a woman living in Port-Harcourt, Rivers state,” he said, adding that “there is electronic voice record as evidence”.

Egbe, further stated that following the disclosure of the suspect, who was brought from Port-Harcourt to kill him, the security men alerted the Abakpa Police Division and took the suspect to their station. “Again at Abakpa Police Division, the suspect confessed that he was paid to assassinate me.”.

Following the suspect’s refusal to mention names of those who paid him  to eliminate him, Egbe said he petitioned the State Commissioner of Police, through his lawyer.

He added that upon the receipt of his petition, the CP instructed the Abakpa Division Police to transfer the suspect to Enugu State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation. “Consequently, the suspect was transferred to State CID. However, no arrests have been made till date.”
