Violent Clash Between Rival Cult Groups Claims Four Lives in Owo, Ondo State

A violent clash between suspected rival cult groups in Owo, the headquarters of Owo Local Government Area in Ondo State, has resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including a mother and her infant. The confrontation, which took place on Monday, January 6, 2025, saw the tragic loss of lives, including that of Fisayo Oladipo, a well-known leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), locally known as Fissey Ehin Ogbe. He, along with another individual, was reportedly shot during the violent clash.

The mother and her child were innocent victims, struck by stray bullets in the midst of the violence. Their remains, along with those of the other victims, have been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre morgue in Owo.

The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the incident through its spokesperson, Funmilayo Odunlami, who stated that law enforcement officers had been deployed to restore peace in the affected area. She also assured that investigations are underway to apprehend those responsible for the deadly clash.

“Four people have been confirmed dead, but normalcy has returned through the intervention of the police. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the perpetrators of the act,” Odunlami stated.
