“Wabara Lauds Governor Otti’s Leadership, Vows to Stand by His Good Works”
The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees and former Senate President, Senator Adolphus Wabara, has once again praised Governor Alex Otti for his remarkable leadership in Abia State, stressing that politics should end after elections, and governance should take precedence.
Wabara made these comments on Sunday at the International Conference Center, Umuahia, during the 80th birthday celebration of Dr. Godswill Okoro, a former Secretary to the State Government under the previous Governor Okezie Ikpeazu. Wabara, who was suspended by the Abia PDP last week for endorsing Otti for a second term, emphasized that he was first and foremost a citizen of Abia before becoming a member of any political party, including the PDP.
In his speech, Wabara boldly declared that even a blind man could see the positive changes happening in Abia under Governor Otti’s leadership. He voiced his commitment to continuing his support for Otti’s good works, regardless of his suspension by the party, and even hinted that the PDP might expel him for speaking out. “Nobody can suspend me for speaking the truth that everyone can see,” Wabara stated.
He urged Governor Otti to continue his progress, affirming that the ancestors of Abia are with him. He also humorously noted that the PDP leadership might target Okoro for suspension next, given that Otti had come to celebrate his 80th birthday.
Wabara praised Otti for recovering Abia from the consequences of bad governance and emphasized that his admiration for the governor’s achievements transcends political party lines.
A Breath of Fresh Air for Abia
Also speaking at the event, Dr. Godswill Okoro expressed his admiration for Governor Otti, noting that his leadership has brought a “breath of fresh air” to Abia State. He commended Otti for the ongoing reconstruction of roads in Bende and Ikwuano local government areas, which, according to Okoro, will significantly boost the state’s agricultural sector.
Okoro also shared a personal memory from when he was approached by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe during the governorship race, stating that he had told Abaribe he was looking for someone who could bring a “breath of fresh air” to the state. Referring to Governor Otti, he said, “Alex Otti, you have brought a breath of fresh air.”
Governor Otti’s Commitment to Unity and Excellence
Governor Otti, in his address, congratulated Dr. Okoro on his milestone 80th birthday and referred to him as a father and mentor. Otti emphasized that his administration is based on unity, excellence, and competence, irrespective of party affiliation, and stressed that Abians should embrace a future focused on these values.
He also called for an end to the disrespect of elders in politics, urging those who insult elders for political gain to desist, warning that such behavior would incur curses. Otti’s message underscored his commitment to fostering a new Abia, one rooted in respect, equity, and competence.
Otti concluded by announcing that he would return to the International Conference Center to celebrate Senator Abaribe’s 70th birthday on March 1, 2025, and Senator Chris Adighije’s 80th birthday on March 22, 2025, further demonstrating his commitment to respecting the elders of the state.
