WAEC Extends Registration Deadline For 2025 Second Series CB-WASSCE Private Candidates
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, has announced an extension of the registration period for the Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) for Private Candidates, 2025 Second Series.
In a statement via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday, WAEC disclosed that the new closing date is Friday, September 19, 2025.
“The registration period for CB-WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2025 Second Series has been extended to Friday, September 19, 2025. All prospective candidates are admonished to make good use of this opportunity,” the Council stated.
Before the extension, the deadline for registration was Friday, September 5, 2025.
The CB-WASSCE Second Series is distinct from the traditional May/June examination for school candidates and is specifically designed for private candidates.
WAEC first introduced the computer-based model in 2024 through a hybrid format, where questions were displayed on computer screens while answers were written using pen and paper. By 2025, the examination transitioned fully to a computer-based format, a move aimed at modernizing the process, curbing malpractice, and aligning with global best practices.
The Council has also announced plans to roll out full computer-based testing across all its examinations by 2026. To this end, it has begun expanding infrastructure, training personnel, and equipping examination centers nationwide.
In April, WAEC launched the WAEC E-Study Portal (waec.estudy.ng) to assist candidates in preparing for the exams. The platform provides access to past questions, marking schemes, examiners’ reports, and personalized performance analytics.
WAEC emphasized that the reforms are designed to strengthen exam integrity and improve candidates’ performance outcomes through digital learning tools that reflect actual examination standards.
