Wike Hits Back at Odili’s Accusations, Shares Surprising Personal Gesture
Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has shared a surprising revelation about his former political ally, Peter Odili. Speaking at a Special Thanksgiving Service in Port Harcourt, Wike disclosed that he personally funded the construction of a luxurious mansion for Odili, who is now an estranged political associate.
Wike’s comments came in response to Odili’s recent outburst, where he accused Wike of attempting to turn Rivers State into his personal property. According to Wike, during his tenure as governor, he took it upon himself to have the mansion built by Julius Berger for Odili, ensuring that the former governor had a place to call home.
“He (Odili) was calling everyone to the house, saying, ‘Come and see what Wike has done for me. Wike has shown me love,’” Wike recalled, emphasizing how Odili proudly showcased the home to visitors at the time.
However, tensions have clearly risen between the two men. Wike, who is highly critical of the current governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has made no secret of his frustrations with Odili. He revealed that Odili had been effusive in his praise of Fubara, despite Wike’s own long tenure as governor. “The governor we all helped elect has barely been in office for a year, and Odili is already claiming that Fubara has surpassed the achievements of all past governors of Rivers State,” Wike remarked, expressing disbelief that an elder statesman would speak so prematurely.
Further fueling the rift, Wike shared a personal anecdote, revealing that his own pictures had been displayed throughout Odili’s home—”in the sitting room, bedroom, kitchen, even in the toilet,” he said. But, as time has passed, Wike noted, “all the pictures have been removed.”
This public dispute showcases the dramatic shift from political camaraderie to sharp division between the two former allies, leaving many to question what led to the unraveling of their once-close relationship.
