Wike’s Faction Fires Warning: PDP on Path to Self-Destruction Without Southern Ticket
In a dramatic escalation of internal party tensions, a group of senior figures within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)—operating under the banner of the Concerned PDP Stakeholders—has issued a bold demand: the party must zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South.
Reading from a communiqué issued after a high-stakes meeting in Abuja on Monday, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike declared that the PDP must urgently address its internal fractures or risk total collapse.
According to the group, the party’s lingering crises stem from the refusal of certain actors to adhere to key provisions of the PDP constitution—specifically citing Sections 36(1)(a–c), 47(3)(5), and 48(1)(i)—and the Supreme Court’s ruling affirming Senator Sam Anyanwu as the legitimate National Secretary.
“The PDP is on an inevitable path to self-annihilation if urgent steps are not taken to rein in the desperate, divisive, and selfish tendencies that crippled us ahead of the 2023 elections,” the communiqué stated.
⚖️ Key Resolutions:
-
The PDP must make a clear and public commitment to zone the 2027 presidency to the South, in line with federal character and the principle of inclusivity.
-
The group reaffirmed Senator Sam Anyanwu as the substantive National Secretary, declaring that only he has constitutional authority to issue notices of meetings, including NEC, NWC, and National Convention.
-
Any meeting notifications or correspondence to INEC not issued by Anyanwu were declared null, void, and unconstitutional.
-
The removal of the National Secretary can only be effected through a properly convened National Convention, as per the PDP constitution.
The stakeholders further demanded that the Acting National Chairman and Senator Anyanwu jointly issue a formal notice to INEC, complete with an agenda for a National Executive Committee meeting. They described this as the only lawful path forward for the party.
Despite the sharp tone of the communiqué, the group reaffirmed its commitment to the PDP, urging members to uphold the rule of law, resist destabilization efforts, and support the National Reconciliation Committee led by Senator Bukola Saraki.
