Wike’s Monthly Media Show is a National Disgrace — Lawyer Tells Tinubu
Human rights lawyer and legal counsel to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately halt what he described as the “wasteful and tone-deaf” monthly media chats hosted by Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike.
In a statement issued Tuesday, Ejiofor criticized the media engagements as an extravagant misuse of public funds, accusing Wike of using the platform for self-promotion while millions of Nigerians grapple with economic hardship.
“Framed as public engagement, this monthly spectacle is nothing more than an ostentatious display funded by hundreds of millions of naira—while citizens battle record inflation, stagnant wages, and deepening poverty,” Ejiofor said.
He argued that the resources spent on one edition of Wike’s televised appearances could instead be used to fund critical public needs—such as emergency relief for flood victims, school refurbishments, or nutrition programs for displaced persons.
“The optics are disheartening. The implications are worse. Nigerians don’t need a televised circus. They need competent leadership and responsible spending,” he stated.
Ejiofor urged President Tinubu to rein in the FCT minister and redirect the funds toward more pressing national priorities.
“This is not a time for flamboyance and fanfare. It’s a time for humility and a renewed commitment to public good. Nigeria deserves better,” he concluded.
