Windshield crack: Sowore faults airline’s position

The Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Mr Omoyele Sowore, who was aboard the Air Peace, flight from Akure to Abuja, yesterday, queried the rationale behind the airline’s claim that its windshield crack didn’t result in panic among passengers.

Sowore said the Embraer ERJ 145 aircraft that landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport suffered a windscreen ‘break’, and wondered why Air Peace would downplay the incident.

The rights activist, in a chat with Vanguard, said: “Where on earth does airline safety issue not cause panic?

“Did they (Air Peace) deny that the windshield broke? Is it normal for the windshield of an aircraft to break? Why did they not report it to the passengers or even to aviation authorities before they repaired it to cover up the incident?

“Why was the aircraft not able to return to Akure and also carry out its operations from Akure to Lagos the same day if it was such a normal issue? It is because Nigeria doesn’t work that is why an airline would issue such a tepid excuse for a major safety issue and would be taken seriously.”
