Youths Forced to Transfer Money at Gunpoint: Police Extortion Scandal Rocks Aboh Mbaise

A shocking case of police extortion has been reported in Aboh Mbaise, Imo State, where over 50 youths were allegedly forced at gunpoint to transfer funds from their bank accounts to designated POS numbers. The incident took place at a checkpoint along the Enyiogugu Mbaise road, triggering widespread anger and concern among the local community.

Eyewitnesses, including a resident named Stanley, revealed that the youths were harassed and intimidated by policemen, some of whom allegedly used threats of violence to coerce them into making the transfers. This has led to increased fears of abuse and extortion at police checkpoints in the area.

In response to the allegations, residents have called on community leaders and traditional rulers to intervene and put an end to these abuses. Many youths are now avoiding the checkpoint altogether, opting to travel at night, exposing themselves to greater risks of robbery and kidnapping in the absence of secure routes.

Stanley, speaking on behalf of the concerned citizens, urged the Imo State Police Command to launch a full investigation into the matter. He emphasized that this was not an isolated incident, citing similar cases of police misconduct and insecurity in the region. The state government and security agencies, he said, need to take stronger action to ensure the safety of the people.

The Imo State Police spokesperson, Henry Okoye, has since acknowledged the seriousness of the complaint, assuring that the matter is under investigation and that officers found guilty of misconduct will face appropriate punishment.
