YPP Chairman Urges President Tinubu to Address Nigeria’s Hardships in Open Letter
The National Chairman of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Comrade Bishop Amakiri, has called on President Bola Tinubu to take swift and decisive action to address the mounting challenges facing Nigerians as he enters the second year of his administration. In an open letter titled “Power is Transient and Time is Slipping Away”, Amakiri urged the President to act urgently, warning that the patience of Nigerians should not be taken for granted.
He stated, “We urge you to take decisive action while time is still on your side to address our nation’s challenges as highlighted in my letter and consider the suggested solutions for posterity.”
While voicing support for the proposed tax reforms, Amakiri emphasized the importance of thorough consultations with key stakeholders to resolve areas of disagreement. He described tax reforms as a timely and necessary initiative but stressed the need for wider engagement to ensure the reforms’ effectiveness.
“The issue of tax reform is a wonderful initiative that couldn’t have come at a better time. But while at it, we emphasise the need for wider consultation and engagement with key stakeholders to resolve areas of disagreement,” he noted.
Amakiri also raised concerns about the actions of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), urging President Tinubu to rein in Wike’s alleged indiscretions. While acknowledging Wike’s positive strides in infrastructure development, Amakiri warned that the minister’s conduct in the FCT and his home state of Rivers could lead to political unrest and tarnish the administration’s reputation.
“While the FCT Minister has made significant strides in infrastructure development, his actions in the FCT and his home state, Rivers, have been marked by indiscretions and impunity. If left unchecked, these could lead to political unrest and further damage your administration’s reputation,” Amakiri cautioned.
Additionally, Amakiri commended the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, for his efforts in advancing local government financial autonomy, acknowledging the progress in this area.
However, Amakiri criticized other members of the cabinet for their underperformance, attributing much of the country’s economic troubles to their inefficiency. He urged President Tinubu to address these issues head-on, asserting that such actions are essential for restoring public confidence and securing the success of his administration.
Amakiri’s letter serves as a direct appeal to President Tinubu to take swift action on critical issues affecting Nigeria, including economic challenges, governance, and political stability.
