Zamfara APC Demands Investigation Into Tragic Airstrike, Urges Military Accountability
The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called for a thorough investigation into the recent tragic accidental airstrike, which claimed over 20 lives in Maradun Local Government Area. The party urged military authorities to ensure such incidents do not disrupt the ongoing fight against banditry in the state.
In a statement released by the APC Publicity Secretary, Mallam Yusuf Idris Gusau, the party expressed deep sadness over the loss of lives, including members of the Community Protection Guard (CPG), vigilantes, and several residents of Tungar Kara village. The airstrike, which mistakenly targeted the civilians, has raised concerns about the safety of military operations in the region.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Zamfara State government and the families of the victims,” the statement read. “We pray Allah to accept their martyrdom and grant their families the strength to bear this irreplaceable loss.”
The APC also emphasized the importance of preventing such tragedies from undermining the critical efforts to combat banditry in the state. The party highlighted the ongoing success of military operations, particularly Operation Fasan Yamma, which has made significant progress in dismantling bandit hideouts. The operation recently led to the elimination of over 25 terrorists in Fakai, a camp enclave linked to notorious bandit kingpin Bello Turji.
“The recent successes of Operation Fasan Yamma are commendable,” the APC said, noting that many bandits have been forced to flee their hideouts due to the intensified military offensive. It is believed that Turji himself is now on the run.
While the tragic airstrike has cast a shadow over the ongoing military operations, the APC stressed that the fight against banditry must continue with the support of all peace-loving citizens. “This operational strategy is impressive and should be sustained to ensure long-term peace and security in Zamfara and beyond,” the statement concluded.
