“Zamfara State Governor Approves Recruitment of 2,000 Teachers to Revitalize Education”
In a significant step towards improving education in Zamfara State, Governor Dauda Lawal has approved the employment of 2,000 qualified teachers. The announcement was made during an Executive Council meeting at the Government House council chamber in Gusau, signaling the administration’s dedication to addressing the educational needs of the state.
A statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, confirmed that the planned recruitment is a fulfillment of promises made during the governor’s campaign. Education, which is the second-highest priority of Governor Lawal’s administration, has already seen substantial focus and efforts aimed at driving positive change.
“On November 14, 2023, Governor Dauda Lawal declared a state of emergency in the educational sector,” the statement read. “This move marks the beginning of a thorough overhaul of the sector, with 2,000 teachers to be employed in phases to ensure the selection of qualified individuals, particularly for areas of critical need.”
The recruitment drive is part of the AGILE Program, which aims to reverse the challenges facing the education system and enhance the quality of teaching across Zamfara’s schools. The first phase will focus on hiring 500 teachers in the first quarter of the year, prioritizing subjects such as English, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, ICT, and entrepreneurship studies.
“This initiative is pivotal in the governor’s broader vision to revitalize education and ensure that every child in Zamfara receives a quality education,” the statement concluded.
