Zamfara to Recruit 2,000 Teachers in Major Education Revamp
Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has announced plans to recruit 2,000 qualified teachers as part of his administration’s efforts to revitalize the state’s education sector. The recruitment, which will take place in phases, is a fulfillment of promises made during his election campaign and aims to address the critical shortages in Zamfara’s schools.
Speaking during the Executive Council meeting at the Government House in Gusau, Governor Lawal emphasized that the recruitment is a key component of his government’s education agenda for 2025. The first phase will focus on hiring 500 teachers in the first quarter of the year, with priority given to subjects such as English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, ICT, and Entrepreneurship studies.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the governor highlighted that education is a top priority for his administration, which has already made significant strides in improving the sector. Governor Lawal had declared a state of emergency in Zamfara’s educational system on November 14, 2023, and since then, efforts have been underway to address the challenges facing the sector.
These efforts include the construction and renovation of over 400 schools across the state’s 14 local government areas, as well as the provision of more than 12,000 two-seater desks for students. Additionally, over 700 tables and 1,000 chairs have been provided for teachers in the renovated and newly constructed schools.
Governor Lawal further assured that the recruitment process would be conducted transparently, with a focus on hiring qualified individuals to address critical needs in the education system. The recruitment is part of the AGILE Program, which aims to reverse the decline in the education sector and improve the quality of teaching and learning across Zamfara State.
