Zulum Approves Major Water Works for Bama to Tackle Long-standing Water Crisis

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has approved the construction of a major water works project in Bama Local Government Area aimed at addressing the region’s longstanding water problems.

Bama, which was overtaken by Boko Haram insurgents in 2014, has seen significant devastation, with the area liberated by the military in March 2015. Since then, the state government has prioritized rebuilding efforts.

Governor Zulum made the announcement during his visit to the Shehu of Bama, Dr. Umar Elkanemi, at his palace in Bama town. The approval comes as part of his administration’s ongoing efforts to revitalize communities affected by the insurgency.

Borno State has already seen the completion of nine major water projects in towns including Ngarannam, Moramti, Pulka, Chibok, and Maiduguri. The Governor also disclosed plans to rehabilitate Bama’s township road networks, which would ease transportation and facilitate movement across the region.

“Bama is among the communities that were hardest hit by the insurgency, and the destruction is beyond imagination,” said Zulum, reflecting on the challenges the area continues to face.

Additionally, the Governor announced plans for the establishment of an Islamic High School in Bama, designed to provide formal education alongside non-formal Almajiri education, thus giving students a broader educational foundation.

The Shehu of Bama praised Governor Zulum for his dedication and selfless service to Borno, especially his initiatives in infrastructure and agriculture.

As part of his visit, Governor Zulum toured Abbaram town, a village on the eastern side of Kur Mohammed military barracks, to assess the extent of the damage caused by Boko Haram insurgents. The Governor’s efforts focus on ensuring the resettlement of people displaced by the insurgency over the past decade.

Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan and Representatives Bukar Talba and Abdulkadir Rahis accompanied Zulum on his visit, all working together to facilitate the rehabilitation of Bama and its surroundings.
