Peter Olasupo Called to INTERPOL Headquarters for Alleged Criminal Defamation
The International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) has summoned Peter Olasupo, an Ibadan-based broadcaster, to its office in Abuja over allegations of criminal defamation and cyber-stalking. Olasupo is scheduled to appear at the INTERPOL headquarters on January 13, 2025.
The broadcaster confirmed the invitation in a statement posted on his Facebook page, According to Olasupo, he received a formal letter from INTERPOL on December 30, 2024, requesting his presence at their headquarters in Abuja to assist with an investigation into the allegations.
Upon receiving the letter through his employer, Olasupo’s boss immediately contacted a lawyer, Barrister Yomi Ogunlola, who responded on his behalf. As a result, his appearance at the INTERPOL office was rescheduled to January 13, 2025.
In his statement, Olasupo expressed confusion and frustration about the situation, questioning the nature of the allegations and the reasons for his summons by INTERPOL. “I have so many questions: Who reported me to INTERPOL? Why INTERPOL? Who is defaming who? And who is cyberstalking who? My Lord, I am innocent of these allegations,” he stated.
Olasupo also questioned why he was being asked to travel to Abuja, suggesting that reporting to local police stations in Ibadan or Lagos would be more convenient. He also raised concerns about the costs and risks associated with traveling to Abuja, especially given the current state of travel expenses. “Shouldn’t INTERPOL at least provide travel allowances?” he asked, expressing his willingness to cooperate with the investigation despite the logistical challenges.
In closing, Olasupo reassured his supporters that the situation would not affect his commitment to professionalism and his dedication to truth-telling. He remains steadfast in his resolve to do what is right and continues to prioritize speaking the truth to those in power.
Olasupo confirmed the authenticity of the statement, stating, “Yes, it’s true oo,” and reiterated his commitment to cooperating with the investigation.
