WAEC Introduces Resit Examinations for WASSCE Candidates in January 2025
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has introduced a new initiative allowing candidates to resit their West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) papers as early as January and February 2025. This marks a significant departure from previous years when students had to wait for the next available private exam cycle.
John Kapi, the Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, confirmed the development during an appearance on JoyNews’ AM Show in Ghana. He stated that students who review their results and find that they need to resit one or more of their papers have until January 8, 2025, to register online through WAEC’s official website or at WAEC-accredited internet cafés.
The resit examinations will take place between January 24 and February 15, 2025. Kapi also clarified that students whose results have been canceled due to malpractices are eligible to sit for the WASSCE PC1 exams, as long as they have not been banned for several years due to such violations.
This new policy provides students with a faster opportunity to retake their exams, offering a more immediate path to obtaining the necessary results for further education or career prospects.
