Enugu Disco Reports Vandalism on Udemezue 11KV Feeder, Disrupts Power in Abakaliki
The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has raised alarm over the recent vandalisation of electricity installations within its operational area in Abakaliki. In a statement released on Sunday by the Head of Corporate Communications, Mr. Emeka Ezehon, the company explained that the disruption of power supply in the affected areas was caused by the vandalisation of the Udemezue 11KV Feeder early on January 5.
The areas affected by the outage include Oroko-onuoha, Udensi, Kpirikpiri, Ogbaga Road, New Layout, Udemezue, Low-Cost Housing Estate, Hilltop Road, and several others. Notable establishments such as Amikaba, Siren Hotel, Man City Hotel, Muchels Hotel, De Pablo Hotel, and Unity FM radio station have also been impacted by the power loss.
Ezehon stated that the damage was discovered by EEDC officials during a routine patrol at 2:40 a.m., following an abnormal outage on the feeder. It was found that the vandals had stolen approximately 16 meters of underground 150mm2 x 3-core armoured cable from the source of the feeder.
Due to the theft, over 70 public and private transformers that serve numerous customers under the feeder are currently without power. The company has expressed regret over the incident and appealed to its customers for patience as they work to replace the stolen and damaged equipment.
“We sincerely regret this unprecedented development and hereby appeal to our customers for their patience and understanding as we are already working to replace the stolen/damaged items,” Ezeh stated. He reassured customers that power would be restored once repairs and replacements are completed.
Ezeh reaffirmed EEDC’s commitment to providing improved services and emphasized that the company is working diligently to resolve the issue and restore power to the affected areas as quickly as possible.
