Abubakr Dokubo-Asari Urges Kalabari Diaspora to Invest in Local Development
The Da-Amakiri Tubo and Amanyanabo of the Elem Kalabari Kingdom, Abubakr Dokubo-Asari, has urged members of the Kalabari diaspora to invest in Nigeria to support the nation’s economic development. In his New Year goodwill message, Dokubo-Asari appealed to monarchs, chiefs, elites, and the people of the Kalabari kingdom to contribute to their homeland’s prosperity.
“We need to bring our investments back home, rather than buying lands in other communities. I call on my fellow Kalabari brothers and sisters around the world to establish businesses here that will boost the economy of the Kalabari Kingdom and create jobs for our people,” Dokubo-Asari stated.
The monarch highlighted the wealth of resources in the Kalabari region, emphasizing opportunities in oil and gas, marine transportation, agriculture, tourism, and other sectors that offer substantial investment potential.
“Our region is rich in oil and gas, with abundant opportunities in marine transportation. There are also vast possibilities in agriculture and tourism development, along with many other avenues for viable investments,” he explained.
Dokubo-Asari also took the opportunity to urge the youth of the kingdom to avoid cultism and violence, promoting instead peaceful and constructive activities that contribute to the well-being of the community.
He reflected on his own decision in 2017 to move from Port Harcourt to Obuama, where he sold all his property and invested in the area. He noted that his efforts have played a significant role in transforming Obuama into a thriving and diverse community.
“I took a bold step in 2017 to relocate to Obuama, sell all my properties in Port Harcourt, and reinvest in Obuama. Today, my investments have helped contribute to the growth and vibrancy of Obuama,” Dokubo-Asari concluded.
