“Pro-Democracy Group Urges Governor Nwifuru to Shake Up Cabinet and Tackle Corruption”
A pro-democracy organization, Turn By Turn Initiatives, is urging Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, to consider making significant changes to his administration. Specifically, they’re calling for a reshuffling of his cabinet and the dismissal of underperforming appointees.
In a statement issued by the group’s National Convener, Comrade Benjamin Nworie, the organization emphasized the need for swift action against contractors who have failed to deliver on government projects. They are pushing the governor to prosecute these contractors and recover the funds they’ve mismanaged.
Comrade Nworie expressed disappointment over how the good intentions of Governor Nwifuru’s administration are being overshadowed by the lackluster performance of some individuals tasked with handling key projects. He pointed out that many of the initiatives launched by the current administration, from road construction to the building of traditional ruler residences, have been left incomplete or delayed, drawing widespread criticism.
“We were pleased to hear about the recent arrest of Builder Chukwuma Nwiboko, the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Project Monitoring, over allegations of contract fund diversion,” Nworie said. “This bold step by the governor should serve as a warning to others who think they can undermine the administration.”
Nworie further criticized the sluggish pace at which projects are being completed, citing examples like the ongoing construction of 2-kilometer roads in several Ebonyi communities, as well as the Ezillo-Ezzagu road, which have remained little more than unfinished promises for years.
The group is urging Governor Nwifuru to adopt a firmer approach and take stronger action against any contractors who refuse to deliver on their commitments, calling for joint site measurements to ensure funds are returned if necessary. “The state’s progress has slowed, and Ebonyi cannot afford to continue this way,” Nworie stated.
Turn By Turn Initiatives also advocates for a major overhaul of the governor’s cabinet. “Some of the appointees don’t understand the policy direction of this administration, and this is holding the state back,” Nworie said. He expressed concern that many of the governor’s close allies and kinsmen are unintentionally sabotaging his administration by not taking their roles seriously.
“We commend Governor Nwifuru for his thoughtful policies and initiatives, which align with the Ebonyi People’s Charter of Needs,” he continued. “However, to make real progress, he needs the right people in place to execute these plans.”
The group reiterated its support for Governor Nwifuru’s leadership and emphasized the importance of putting the needs of the state above personal interests, encouraging the governor to remain resolute in making the necessary changes for the good of Ebonyi.
