Governor Umar Bago Pledges Support for NAPTIP in Fight Against Human Trafficking

Governor Umar Bago of Niger State has urged fellow governors to lend their support to the operations of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) as part of efforts to combat human trafficking and violence against persons in Nigeria. The governor made the call on Tuesday when NAPTIP’s Director-General, Binta Adamu-Bello, paid him a visit in Abuja.

Bago emphasized the importance of collective action in addressing the critical issues of human trafficking and violence against persons, which have become a growing concern, particularly in northern Nigeria. He stressed that both state and non-state actors must work together to tackle these challenges across all levels of governance.

Niger State to Support NAPTIP with Land for New Command

In a move to strengthen the agency’s operations in the state, the governor announced that the Niger State government would provide land for the establishment of NAPTIP’s state command. This initiative aims to facilitate the agency’s work in combating human trafficking and supporting victims in the region.

During the visit, Ms. Adamu-Bello briefed the governor on NAPTIP’s mission and the progress the agency has made in its fight against trafficking. She noted that the visit was part of NAPTIP’s broader strategy to engage key stakeholders across the country to enhance collaboration in the battle against human trafficking.
