“Kano’s New Security Force: Bill Passed to Empower Local Agency with Law Enforcement Powers”

The Kano State House of Assembly has successfully passed a bill to establish a state-owned security outfit, granting it the authority to bear arms, prevent crimes, and make arrests across the state.

This legislative development came after extended discussions, particularly around a contentious clause that prohibits members of political parties from leading the newly created security agency.

Lawan Husaini Dala, the Majority Leader of the House, emphasized that the legislature had conducted an in-depth review of the bill to ensure it serves the best interests of all sectors within the state.

He further clarified that the law mandates that the leadership of the security outfit be entrusted to a non-partisan indigene of the state, ensuring impartiality and effectiveness in its operations.

The law is designed to strengthen security in Kano, with security personnel granted significant authority to bear arms, make arrests, prevent crimes, and apprehend offenders.
