APC Slams Peter Obi as ‘Prophet of Doom’ Over Claims of Worsening Nigeria Crisis
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has sharply criticized Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, calling him a “prophet of doom” following his recent remarks about Nigeria’s worsening economic and security situation.
The APC spokesperson, Felix Morka, made this statement in response to a press conference held by Obi on Thursday, in which the former Anambra State governor claimed that the country’s challenges under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had intensified over the past 18 months. Obi went further to challenge President Tinubu to visit Nigerian hospitals and make short trips around the country to witness firsthand the deteriorating state of affairs.
In its response, the APC vehemently disagreed with Obi’s assessment, emphasizing that, contrary to his claims, Nigeria’s economy has been showing signs of progress. The ruling party described Obi’s comments as misleading and intended to gain cheap political mileage.
“While Nigerians welcomed the New Year with optimism for a brighter 2025, Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State and the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, appears to be stuck in a never-ending cycle of pessimism,” the statement read.
APC further noted that Obi’s assertion—claiming that Nigeria’s political, economic, and security situations are deteriorating—is not only misleading but also contradicted by all indicators, which show significant progress in various sectors. “Obi’s gloomy New Year message positions him as Nigeria’s foremost doomsayer,” the party concluded.
