Cross River gov hails library, govt house remodelling projects
The Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, has expressed satisfaction with the progress of key infrastructure projects, including the remodelling of the Governor’s Office complex, the state library, the previously abandoned Local Government Service Commission office, and the Governor’s Lodge.
Otu made the remarks on Wednesday during an inspection tour of the ongoing projects, commending the quality and pace of work.
He noted that the redesign of the Local Government Service Commission office, abandoned for over a decade, would enhance public administration and boost productivity.
“The design and ambiance of the Local Government Service Commission office building will significantly elevate operational efficiency in public administration and bolster productivity,” Otu stated.
The governor highlighted the importance of creating modern, functional workspaces for civil servants.
“An adequately equipped secretariat will empower our workers to better serve the public and foster greater efficiency, which will, in turn, improve governance outcomes,” he added.
During the tour, the governor also visited the reconstruction site of the State Library, which is undergoing a comprehensive transformation from a neglected facility into a modern learning hub.
The upgraded library will feature state-of-the-art amenities, including dedicated reading spaces, computer facilities, e-learning resources, and communal areas for educational programs and exhibitions.
“Investing in our libraries equates to investing in our future. We must provide our citizens with the tools to thrive in an increasingly competitive world,” the governor stated
Otu also inspected the renovation of his main office, which has been under refurbishment for the past 18 months.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to maintaining high standards and quality in all development projects.
As part of the tour, the governor visited the newly asphalted Harcourt Street in Calabar South, expressing satisfaction with the quality of work.
“Aligned with our mandate to restore state assets to their intended use, I am here to assess the progress. From what I’ve seen, the quality and standards are exceptional,” he said.
