Explosions target military vehicles in Niger’s Tillabéri region

The Tillabéri region of Niger witnessed a series of explosions on December 22, 2024, targeting military vehicles, according to a statement claimed by the Islam and Muslims Support Group, JNIM-AQMI.

The group, an affiliate of Al-Qaeda, reported that several improvised explosive devices, IEDs, were detonated in three different locations, resulting in the destruction of two military vehicles and six motorcycles.

While the specific areas affected have not been disclosed, the attacks occurred in the volatile tri-border region linking Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso—a zone plagued by frequent insurgent activities.

JNIM-AQMI stated that the operation was part of its ongoing campaign against the Nigerian armed forces. However, the group’s communiqué did not mention the number of casualties from the attacks.
