INEC declares PDP winners of supplementary elections in Rivers
The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party winners of the supplementary elections held in two federal constituencies in Rivers State.
The PDP candidate for Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency, Dunameme Dekor and the candidate for the Port Harcourt Federal Constituency 2, Blessing Amadi, were declared winners respectively by the Returning Officers.
The INEC had announced the winners of the supplementary election after the collation of results were concluded for Sorgho and Bangha communities in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State and PHALGHA 2.
The Returning Officer for the Constituency election, Kingsely Owete after reading the performance of the various candidates in the election said “The PDP candidate, Dumnamene Dekor having satisfied the requirements of the law is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.
Similarly, the INEC declared the female PDP candidate for Port Harcourt Federal Constituency 2, Blessing Amadi winner of the supplementary election.
Recall that the All Progressives Congress candidate for the election, Collins Owhondah had withdrawn from the race, less than 24 hours before the election and announced his defection to the PDP.
Owhondah cited the lack of focus, seriousness, and insensitivity of APC leadership in the state as reasons for dumping the party, saying, “The APC is never ready to win elections in Rivers State.”
Speaking to newsmen after he was declared winner, Dekor commended the electorates for the confidence reposed in him and promised not to let them down.
On her part, Blessing Amadi thanked the people of PHALGHA Constituency 2 for their support and pledged a quality representation when she assumed duty in the green chamber of the national assembly.
She also commended INEC for ensuring that the BVAS machines used for the election functioned properly
