Kwara: Concerns Over 11km Road Project Abandoned For 20 Years

People of Isanlu—Isin in Kwara South have cried out over the abandonment of the 11-kilometre Oke Onigbin-Isanlu Isin road project.

the road project was awarded by the administration of the late Governor Mohammed Lawal (1999-2003) but was not fully executed.

It was further gathered that the administration of the immediate past governor of the state, Alh Abdulfatah Ahmed, also included the project among projects to be funded through the Infrastructure Development Fund Kwara (IF-K).

But, despite being re-awarded, the project remains incomplete as of the time of this report.

All the important road projects have been abandoned, isolating their community and stalling the development of the area.

The Asiwaju of Isin Land in the United Kingdom, Chief Joshua Oloyede, appealed to the Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to prioritise the completion of the road project.

Though Oloyede hailed the governor’s stride in improving the state’s infrastructure, he expressed concerns about what he called the prolonged neglect of the Oke Onigbin-Isanlu Isin road.

Another community leader in the area, Engr. Dapo  Owolabi said that the construction of the 11-kilometre road, which started during the administration of the late Governor Mohammed Lawal, was later included in projects to be funded through the Infrastructure Development Fund Kwara (IF-K), adding that “ despite being re-awarded, the project remains incomplete.”

He joined Oloyede in appealing to Governor Abdulrazaq to make good his pledge to ensure the completion of the road project.
