Nasarawa Governor Sule Criticizes PDP’s Ombugadu Over ‘Stolen Mandate’ Claims
Governor Abdullahi Sule Warns PDP’s Ombugadu Against Undermining Electoral Victory
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has issued a stern warning to David Ombugadu, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2023 governorship election, over his continued challenge of the governor’s electoral victory.
Ombugadu, who had taken his challenge to the Supreme Court, recently claimed that Governor Sule “stole” the mandate of the opposition party in the election. In response, Governor Sule, through a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Peter Ahemba, expressed displeasure over the allegations, stating that the PDP was misleading the public despite Sule’s overwhelming victory in the election.
The statement also condemned Ombugadu and PDP leaders for an incident during a wedding ceremony in Toto Local Government Area, where Ombugadu allegedly distributed campaign flyers. Sule’s team argued that turning a wedding event into a political rally and promoting his candidacy for the 2027 elections violated electoral laws.
In response to the governor’s comments, Jonah Esla, media aide to Ombugadu, rejected Sule’s accusations, suggesting that the true circumstances of the election and the governor’s victory remain an open secret. Esla reiterated Ombugadu’s belief that God is preparing him for future leadership, and highlighted the PDP’s ongoing influence in Nasarawa State, with Ombugadu maintaining a significant presence in local governments.
