Omoyele Sowore: “My Current Ordeal Won’t Stop Me from Becoming Nigeria’s Next President”
Former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has boldly stated that his current legal challenges will not deter him from pursuing his goal of becoming Nigeria’s next president. Sowore is facing cybercrime charges filed against him by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, for calling him an “illegal IGP” on his verified X handle.
On Wednesday, Sowore appeared before Justice Mohammed Liman of the Federal High Court in Abuja, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges. Despite the legal proceedings, Sowore remained resolute, insisting that his ongoing ordeal would not affect his presidential aspirations.
Speaking to journalists before his court session, Sowore expressed his determination: “Whether I am granted bail or not, it will not stop me from becoming the next President of Nigeria. This is not the end of my journey,” he said.
He further explained that he had voluntarily complied with the police’s electronic invitation, but rejected the bail conditions they imposed. “I chose to stay in detention rather than accept bail under those conditions,” Sowore noted.
Sowore’s statement underscored his unwavering resolve, saying, “It doesn’t matter if I don’t get bail. Whatever will be, will be. But even if I remain in detention, it won’t stop me from becoming the next President of Nigeria. I’m not declaring my candidacy yet, but I remain committed to this vision.”
Despite the legal battles, Sowore’s declaration signals his continued ambition to lead the country, undeterred by the current charges against him.
