Onitsha Market: Peace and Conflict Mediator Seeks Government Intervention
Peace and Conflict Mediator a human right organization are raising a clarion call for government intervention on the state of quagmire and cacophony the traders in Onitsha Trading at Ozomagana Building Materials Plaza are now being subjected to without hope of liberation.
The peace and conflict mediator in an excellent master piece of information stated that this mayhem is being occasioned by the desperate group led by MR. Obiora Okoro the suspended chairman of the plaza with Ikechukwu Aneke, Chigozie Ejiofor , Ferdinard Ifezue, Nonso Paul, Nick Joe, Patrick Obiekwe, Samuel Modebe, Richard Modebe,Olisa Menkiti which group masterminded and manufactured a lease agreement claiming that they secured a lease agreement with Modebe Enterprise Limited (Modebe Family Onitsha)
The peace and conflict mediator reiterated that at all material times the group claiming to have secured this purported lease should be subjected to investigation instead the group are still unleashing crisis and mayhem in the plaza.
The group secured the combine forces of police officers armed to the teeth led by CSP CHRIS OKAFOR to intimidate, maim, bully and arrest MR. TOCHUKWU UMEH, OKECHUKWU MUOJEKWU amongst other traders in the Ozomogana Building Material Plaza together with members of Modebe Enterprise Limited (Modebe Family)
In a passionate outcry the peace and conflict mediator stated that on the 29th day of July 2026 CSP Chris Okafor and heavily armed police officers stormed the residence of the Director of Modebe Enterprises Limited and Ozomogana Building Materials Plaza Onitsha intimidating and harassing the traders together with members of Modebe Enterprise Limited (Modebe Family)
More worrisome scenario is the fact that there is a pending suit in court challenging the lease agreement manufactured by MR. OBIORA OKORO the sponsor of the group which suit is still pending in court yet heavily armed men led by CSP CHRIS OKAFOR are still creating crisis in Ozomagana Building Materials Plaza and harassing members of Modebe Family with sole aim grabbing the plaza/land from Modebe Enterprise Limited (Modebe Family)
In future breakdown of law in the Onitsha environs MR. OBIORA OKORO and his group; Ikechukwu Anele, Chigozie Ejiofor, Ferdinard Ifezue, Nonso Paul, Nick Joe, Patrick Obiekwe, Richard Modebe, Samuel Menkiti and Olisa Modebe hired thugs to demolish and vandalize the properties, engineering barricade and structures of Modebe Family situate at the Plaza on the 4th day of August 2026 attacking traders and members of the Modebe Family with their thugs.
The Peace and Conflict Mediator decried the fact that the said MR. OBIORA OKORO and his group who have been the oppressor turned to cry victim and rushed to Nnewi High Court to file a fundamental right suit against Modebe Enterprises Limited, the traders and police in SUIT NO: HN/MICS 50/2026 which suit was struck out for being an abuse of Court Process.
The Peace and Conflict Mediator has called on the Anambra State Government , the Nigerian police and the judiciary to intervene in the matter in order to save the lives and properties of the members of the public. The echelon call is also aimed at allowing the rule of law to prevail so that the court will determine the issues in controversy rather than the unconstitutional actions and inactions of MR. OBIORA OKORO and his group.
